Today’s Dumbest Alleged Criminal Is...

The Consumer Electronics Show is, by all accounts, one of the largest and best organized tradeshows in the world. Maybe it’s a personal opinion, but it’s a great show and a great way to kick off the new year.

Held in Las Vegas every year, it also is a target for thieves who want to scamper off with some very cool gadgets.

Maybe it’s not a security show, but who in their right mind would think there isn’t a security presence. Apparently, alleged thief Willy Wu wasn’t paying attention to where he was, or maybe he was just a little bit overconfident. While in the alleged act of stealing, his sticky fingers were caught on cameras located at the booth.

Willy walks up to the Swann Security booth and browses the book for a while, then wanders away with the material. Swann Security, by the way, specializes in home security equipment and, of course, the company had cameras set up at the time of the incident. It’s all clearly caught on video as he casually walks away.

A few minutes later, Swann Security staff notice their log-in book is missing, so they go directly to the video to review what happened. See video from one of the security cameras here.

What happens next is classic security. Keith Oldridge, Swann Security group CEO and vice chairman, grabs some of his team members and they find Wu. He was wandering around the exhibit hall. He quickly returned the book, but CES security has his identity and is following up with an investigation.
